Level 3: Advanced/Designated Safeguarding Lead (COVID-19 package 2021)

This Advanced / Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) online course is provided by the Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board (OSCB) as a temporary alternative to the 2 face to face courses during the coronavirus situation which has led to the temporary postponement of classroom based delivery of training.

The OSCB recognises that the temporary postponement of required face to face multi-agency DSL training may lead to a situation where key staff members' safeguarding training is not up to date and this may lead to some children and young people being at risk.

This course is provided as a temporary measure for staff who need to complete an Advanced or a DSL course, either for the first time as they undertake the Advanced Safeguarding Training (as they may regularly work with any children and young people on a one-to-one basis and could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating the needs where there are safeguarding/child protection concerns), or are undertaking the DSL role within their organisation or as a refresher course as their training has run out. In the unlikely event that staff have not previously completed the face to face generalist course prior to undertaking this online Advanced / DSL course, we recommend that they complete the OSCB eLearning course 'Awareness of Child Abuse and Neglect' prior to undertaking this course.

If you are completing this course as a refresher (because you have attended an advanced or a designated safeguarding lead course previously) then your certificate is valid for 1 year from the completion date and the OSCB requires that you complete the face to face course at that time.

If you are completing this course for the first time as you are new to the role of Advanced practitioner / DSL, then your certificate will be valid for 1 year only and you are advised to attend a face to face course at that time.

The course should take approximately 90 minutes to complete and you are advised to follow all links provided to have full access to information needed for your role as DSL or as a specialist one to one worker.
