Detail:

This course provides an introduction to Restorative Practice. It is open for all professionals who work with Children, Young People and their Families.

Resorative Practice is a term used to describe behaviours, interactions and approaches which help to build and maintain positive, healthy relationships, resolve difficulties and repair harm where there has been conflict. When we work with and alongside people, there is strong evidence to say that outcomes for children and their families are improved.

The aim of the course is to promote a system wide approach to supporting children, young people and their families by participants developing a better understanding of the relationship between Restorative Practice and improving children and young people's mental health outcomes (as summarised in Future in Mind).

The training will be delivered by Thames Valley Restirative Justice Service (TVRJS) who are very experienced trainers and have a wealth of knowledge and experience in relation to delivering Resorative Practice in a wide variety of settings.

Course Objectives:

  • To understand the principles and values of restorative practice
  • To understand how restorative practice differs from other forms of conflict resolution
  • To understand the processes involved in holding a restorative conversation, including the 5 restorative themes
  • To understand the 4 Social Discipline Window and how this can be used as a reflective tool
  • How restorative practices can be used to improve the emotional literacy of young people
  • Gain knowledge and techniques of Mental Health awareness to implement in their own settings with children and young people
