Venue:

Unipart House Business Centre, Unipart House, Garsington Road, Cowley, Oxford, OX4 2PG

Detail:

Following on from the success of the UASC conference ‘The Journey To Belonging’, hosted in October 2018 by Oxfordshire County Council, this training will inform professionals about a range of issues affecting UASC, including age assessments and immigration. The training is hosted in partnership between Oxfordshire County Council’s UASC team, solicitors Turpin & Miller, and charity Asylum Welcome, and will give a well-rounded perspective on a UASC’s journey through different services.

The UASC social work team will talk about age assessments, including the process young people go through and dispelling common myths about what does or does not happen. They will cover how professionals can give feedback into the process.

Asylum Welcome will then discuss asylum support and challenges to age assessment outcomes, including information about other organisations who offer support. They will answer questions such as ‘what happens to UASC assessed as being over 18?’ and ‘what happens if UASC become All Rights Exhausted (ARE)?’

A local immigration solicitor will cover the UK asylum and immigration processes, including human trafficking, Legal Aid, Home Office interviews, delays and appeals to asylum outcomes.

Who should attend:

Multi-agency professionals in Oxfordshire who are working with / likely to work with Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children. Professionals who would like to understand more about age assessments, immigration and support processes. This training is open to frontline workers and volunteers from wide-ranging settings including education, housing, police, health, social care, early help, voluntary sector etc.
