This training is underpinned by 'Future in Mind' (2015), a document that promotes the message that positive mental is everybody's business. In line with this government strategy, the 'Building Resilience; Children and Young People's Mental Health' training has been designed to support frontline staff to promote their part in our national culture shift which embraces social and emotional wellbeing and responds early to signs of mental health problems.
It takes a non-clinical approach that explores how frontline staff can empower individuals to have responsibility for the wellbeing of everyone around them, looking at strategies which can increase the emotional literacy and resilience of children and young people. In response to early signs of mental health problems, it considers tools which can be used with children and young people and an increased awareness of other services available.
In addition, the course aims to allow for professionals to have the opportunity to engage in thinking about how their own mental health needs are met and how this could impact upon the children and young people they work with.
What does this training provide?
- A framework for thinking about mental health
- Information about child and adolescent development and mental health
- Information about risk and resilience factors
Plus an increased understanding of:
- Children and young people's mental health
- How workers can help to support resilience
- How to signpost to local specialist services
Who is this training for?
Anyone working with children and/or young people; including foster carers, teaching assistants, teachers, sports coaches, headteachers, youth workers, GPs, residential workers, social workers, early help workers.
