Aim:
This specialist training workshop is aimed at professionals who are experienced in working with disabled children and who have already undertaken Generalist training. It is also aimed at professionals from Social Care Assesment teams and the Police who may be involved in child protection enquiries involving disabled children.

Social workers from mainstream social care or CAMHS teams should consider attending if they may be key workers for children with mild/moderate Learning Difficulties, autism or other neurodevelopmental difficulties. Early help professionals who work with children with these difficulties should also attend.

SENCOs who work with disabled children in mainstream schools and staff, especially safeguarding leads from special schools, are welcome.

  • Explore the current legislation, guidance and context relating to disability and safeguarding
  • Review lessons learnt from safeguarding practice reviews involving disabled children

  • Assess the signs and indicators presented by disabled children who may have been subjected to abuse including any potential for confusion in interpretation
