Overview

The Equality Act, 2010 identifies 9 protected characteristics These are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

This module will explain how protected characteristics can impact experiences of domestic abuse and help identify how these may present additional barriers to seeking help and support, outlining ways that these barriers can be mitigated. The session will additionally outline helpful tools and resources to support improved practice, and additional routes to support.

 Aims

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

  • Explain how intersecting identities can impact experiences of domestic abuse
  • Identify how these may present additional barriers to seeking help and support, and how these can be mitigated
  • Outline helpful tools and resources to support improved practice, and additional routes to support

Approach

Once you have booked a place on your chosen day, you will be invited to a 2.5 hour seminar on that day from 9.30 a.m. till 12 p.m. Seminars will start promptly.
