We would STRONGLY recommend completing the Webinar - Domestic Abuse: Basic Awareness available via the OSCB training website before booking a place on this module.

Overview

Experiencing CAPVA can be devastating. Recent research found that 40% of those experiencing CAPVA do not feel able to report it. Parents/carers interviewed said they only contacted the police at crisis points when they felt they had no other choice and were afraid for their physical safety. All parents/carers affected said they had experienced multiple incidents of violence before reaching crisis point.[1] This module will develop insights into the dynamics and contexts of Child/Adolescent to Parent Abuse, including prevalence and risk factors. It also aims to foster further understanding of the barriers to families seeking help and support, as well as approaches to address these.

Aims

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the dynamics and contexts of Child/Adolescent to Parent Abuse, including prevalence and risk
  • Recognise the barriers to families seeking help and support, as well as approaches to address these
  • Explain their safeguarding responsibilities against abusive behaviours
  • Recognise the best practice for opening conversations including routes to support such as referral and signposting

Approach

Once you have booked a place on your chosen day, you will be invited to a 2.5 hour seminar on that day from 9.30 a.m. till 12 p.m. Seminars will start promptly.

Please note that you will be able to access pre-course materials (a short video and reflective tool) a week before the date of your course via your user profile on the booking system and you will need to review these materials prior to your seminar session.
