Overview
Estimates across the UK suggest that 90% of all rapes and sexual assaults are carried out by abusers known to the victim. This statistic includes partners and ex-partners. This module will highlight the links between experiences of domestic abuse and sexual violence, exploring the prevalence of sexual violence as a mechanism of domestic abuse.
Aims
By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:
- Identify the links between experiences of domestic abuse and sexual violence, including the prevalence of sexual violence as a mechanism of domestic abuse
- Recognise the impacts of sexual violence on victim-survivors and how these can present an additional barrier to seeking help and support
- Outline how to respond appropriately and sensitively, including enabling access to relevant specialist support
Approach
Once you have booked a place on your chosen day, you will be invited to a 2.5 hour seminar on that day from 9.30 a.m. till 12 p.m. Seminars will start promptly.
Please note that you will be able to access pre-course materials (a short video and reflective tool) a week before the date of your course via your user profile on the booking system and you will need to review these materials prior to your seminar session.
