Detail:

This course is delivered via a live online trainer led webinar and closer to the event date, delegates will receive AN INVITE from the Early Years TrainingTeam. This will include the Microsoft Teams link to join the webinar.

THE OSCB TRAINING BOOKING SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO BOOK A PLACE ON THIS COURSE UNLESS YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE eLEARNING COURSE 'Level 3: Designated Safeguarding Lead' IN THE PREVIOUS 12 MONTHS.

The 'Webinar: Level 3: Designated Safeguarding Lead' course is a specialist level (level 3) course for Early Years Professionals, Childminders and those that work with younger children and babies It is designed to promote a positive culture of safeguarding and to uphold an appropriate safe multi-agency partnership working practice. This course is specifically designed for Early Years Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Delegates are advised that attendance at this event is dependent on the successful completion of the:

Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Lead eLearning (2024-2025)

which is also available on the OSCB booking site.

All delegates are strongly advised to refer to the OSCB's 'Training Policy' for more details, which is available on the OSCB website.

Delegates must have access to a laptop or a computer as this session is not accessible via a mobile phone or ipad and it is necessary to set up a 'Microsoft Teams' account to access the session.

Practitioners are able to attend this webinar if they are new to the role of DSL and have not undertaken 'Designated Safeguarding Lead' training before or if they need to refresh their learning and their training certificate. Completion for either reason will lead to a certificate which is valid for 2 years from the date of successful completion of the level 3 eLearning, providing this webinar course has also been successfully completed.

Aim:

To help designated leads to think critically and carefully about the management of safeguarding issues in their setting and feel more confident in carrying out the responsibilities of the designated lead.

Objectives:

This course will give delegates an opportunity to:

  • Consolidate learning covered in the 'Level 3: Advanced / Designated Safeguarding Lead' eLearning course
  • State the key roles and responsibilities as a designated/safeguarding lead practitioner
  • Describe how you might escalate a concern
  • Demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding procedures
  • Describe how you will support staff in their safeguarding practice, including attending child protection case conferences
  • Raise awareness of current national and local safeguarding themes
  • Raise awareness of 'Multi-Agency Chronologies' (MAC)

Delegates should be aware that there are 8 documents available to download as pre-reading to undertaking this webinar and there will be opportunities for discussion on these during the session.

Expectations of delegate training attendance

The OSCB would like to remind all course attendees that joining virtual training has the same expectations as attendance at face-to-face training.  Examples of unacceptable attendance are:

1. Not being able to be fully focused and engaged with the training content and trainers
2. Attending a course in a workplace where the delegate may be disturbed or called away to deal with other issues
3. Missing more than 15 minutes of the session for any reason; the delegate will be marked as absent if this occurs

Training attendees must be able to:

1. Have their cameras on and have access to the chat function in TEAMS
2. Respond to questions from the trainers

The OSCB has a duty to ensure that attendees at safeguarding courses are fully committed to the session and have the opportunity to discuss any parts of the course that are not clear.

The trainers themselves are tasked with ensuring that delegates have attended for the whole session, and have contributed to discussions, for them to receive their certificate.
